Lodewijk Crommelin, born in 1974, started to play the piano at six years of age. At the Royal Conservatory in The Hague he studied piano in the Young Talent class with pedagogue Marcel Baudet and afterwards with Russian pianist Naum Grubert. At the same time he studied Musicology at Utrecht University, graduating with a Master of Arts Degree. He completed his conservatory training with a Performer’s Diploma. He took part in several masterclasses with pianists such as Lazar Berman, György Sándor, Arnaldo Cohen, Ivan Moravec, Jörg Demus and Charles Rosen.

He continued his studies with the eminent American pianist Abbey Simon at the Moores School of Music of the University of Houston, for which he received scholarships from the Dutch Funds for the Performing Arts and the VSB-funds, as well as from the University of Houston. In Houston he also took several lessons with Horacio Gutiérrez.

Lodewijk Crommelin concertizes in various countries in Europe, in the United States and in China. In Holland he has performed in all of the major concert venues and in several festivals. His repertoire includes compositions from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods and from the twentieth century. Besides performing mainstream repertoire he is interested in learning and performing unknown and neglected pieces, such as the works of Charles Griffes. He plays solo piano repertoire, piano concertos with orchestra, chamber music and regularly accompanies instrumentalists and singers. He was featured on numerous radio broadcasts in Holland, on Radio France in Paris and in Shanghai. He made a CD recording with piano sonatas and other works by Charles Griffes and Samuel Barber, which appeared on the Future Classics label. With pianist Marcel Worms he made recordings of piano compositions for four-hands by Dutch composer Dick Kattenburg (1919-1944) for a CD production devoted solely to this composer, also released by Future Classics.
