About Lucia Swarts
Lucia Swarts completed her studies with Anner Bijlsma at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague in 1982. Her performance career spans different genres and periods of classical music. This is exemplified in her membership of such diverse ensembles as the ASKO Schönberg Ensemble, the Baroque Orchestra of the Netherlands Bach Society (where she fulfills the role of principal cellist), and the Residentie Bach Ensemble. With these ensembles, lead by conductors such as Reinbert de Leeuw, Oliver Knussen, Peter Dijkstra and Jos van Veldhoven, she made numerous CD’s and DVD’s. Additionally, she has worked with musicians such as Michael Chance, Ryo Terakado, Harry van der Kamp and Jos van Immerseel. Lucia has made several solo CD’s, with Vivaldi sonatas, 19th-century works for cello and piano(with pianist Leo van Doeselaar), Italian cello concertos, and Boccherini sonatas for cello.
Aside from her performing career, Lucia Swarts also teaches modern and baroque cello at the Royal Conservatoire The Hague, as well as leading the Young Talent cello class. She gives regular masterclasses in Salamanca(Sp), Villa Bossi (It), Boedapest(Hg) and Zutphen (Nl).
