Christiaan Verbeek

Texelodes

To celebrate 7 Mountain Records’s 10 year anniversary, we bring you Texelodes. With this album, Christiaan Verbeek (1984) presents a 12-part tribute to his native island, Texel. For this versatile composer/pianist/multi-instrumentalist, this unique island is a haven with which he feels deeply connected. He expresses this powerfully on this new, completely autonomous album with also 12 musicians, consisting of the world-famous Cello Octet Amsterdam and top soloïsts Tosca Opdam (violin), Sterre Konijn (vocals and theremin synthesizer) and Raphaela Danksagmüller (recorders, fujara and kaval). Verbeek himself performs brilliantly on a concert grand, piano, Rhodes, analog synthesizer, trumpet and percussion. The unforgettable panoramas that the Texel landscape offers but also the returning road to it from the hectic pace of life in Rotterdam and Amsterdam are incorporated by him in an 80-minute animated and cinematic sound trip.

Texelodes is an album that will reveal new sights with every listen. A journey through nature by an inspired and adventurous creator who seeks improvisation and the joy of playing, but also displays impressive moments of introspection and spirituality.
